This evening from 4:15-5:30 a professional development opportunity on Strong Start will be held in the Curriculum Room at admin.
This PD is a great opportunity for you if....
1. You are struggling with management issues off the bat.
2. If you feel like the start of class is disorganized and messy.
3. If you just simply feel as though your pacing and timing is off.
4. You are spending a lot of time at the start of class addressing misbehavior that is stemming from a lack of a strong system and routine.
The objectives of the session are the following:
1) Analyze the techniques champion teachers use to start their lessons productively and positively.
2) Use planning and practice to improve our ability to get our lessons off to a Strong Start.
A Strong Start maximizes the time between the moment students walk through the door and when the main lesson begins, building engagement in meaningful work and positive, productive student habits.
Please RSVP by emailing Casey DeFord if you will be in attendance. Hope to see you there!

Due to power outages, we will not have school today, August 17. Stay safe and dry!

The Blytheville Chickasaws beat up on Mountain Home 50-7 on Aug. 16 at Haley Field in a jamboree benefit game for the Arkansas Activities Association.

Girls Reaching All Concepts of Excellence (GRACE) is now accepting applications for NEW and RETURNING mentors. GRACE is a mentoring and youth development program offered to girls from grades 9-12 at Blytheville High School. Our mission is to empower young ladies to become the best versions of themselves by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for success. For those who are unfamiliar with the mentoring process, a mentorship is a time during which a mentor assists and guides a mentee towards the achievement of her goals.
Throughout the school year, our mentees and mentors will meet in small groups twice per week for 30 minutes during lunch, and large group meetings will be held for 45 minutes once per month on Connections days. Participants of the program will also engage in enrichment activities outside of regular meeting times.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, the deadline to apply is Friday, August 24th. You may access the online application at www.gracementorship.org/mentorship-application. Orientation will be held Tuesday, September 4th at 6 PM in the BHS Library.

Students! Now that school is back in full swing, many of you will have to start writing papers over summer reading or brand new projects. Check out https://www.wordhippo.com/ for help when you can't think of the word you're looking for!

Because Memorial Day is kicking off our last week of school and official start of summer, let's talk Summer Slide! It is important to ensure your child does not lose all of the valuable knowledge he/she has acquired during the school year. According to recent data, over the summer students lose approximately 2.6 months of math skills. This loss is often called “The Summer Slide” and there are many ways to prevent it! In addition to reading with your child every day throughout the summer, look for opportunities to incorporate learning into everyday activities. Math and reading skills are important parts of cooking. Also, physical activities such as sports give students the opportunity to build teamwork skills. Be sure to check with our local library for fun and engaging learning activities throughout the entire summer.
