
UAPB recruiter Ceicila Kolesar made a special trip to BHS today to present the Dean's Scholarship to Senior Chykeria Williams. The Dean's Scholarship is valued at $21,600 over four years! Chykeria is pictured with her mom, college and career counselor,Ms. Crosskno and friends as she accepts the scholarship.Congratulations Chykeria and good luck at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.




This week's CAR (Caught and Rewarded) award goes to Ms. Crossknow. Ms. Crosskno was voted on by her peers to be a counselor that: "doesn't stop when the work gets hard or tiresome, works as her student's champion when they don't have one, and she greets and treats everyone with love, respect and dignity. Ms. Crosskno is an integral part of what makes BHS special." Thanks, Ms. Crossknow for all your hard work!!

SCHOLARSHIP!!!
A link has been emailed to students regarding the Arkansas Public Health Association Scholarship.
The APHA Student Scholarship in the amount of $1000 is given annually.
Criteria:
Currently enrolled in the field of public health at an Arkansas school
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good standing
Required to sit on APHA board as a student representative
Not a previous scholarship recipient
Application Deadline:
April 15, 2018
Notification of Scholarship:
May 1, 2018

Mr. Garcia's Career Readiness students were given an assignment to interview a professional and write an article about their profession.
Students worked on communication skills, design skills, and were able to network with an adult in their career fields of interest.
They collaborated to create a magazine to present their articles.

Attention Seniors: The Richard Berry Harrison High School Scholarship Application, Richard Berry Harrison High School Scholarship Application in Memory of Martha Jones - Jefferson and Willie "Snake" Harvey, and the Richard Berry Harrison High School Scholarship Application in Memory of Rev. Frederick Haynes have been emailed to Seniors. Paper copies can be found in the informational racks located outside the Library and Counseling Office.

ATTENTION SENIORS:
The Law Offices of Alan LeVar is offering a $2,500 scholarship for high school seniors in Arkansas.
The Safe Arkansas Scholarship will be awarded to a student who creates a unique and informative video highlighting the dangers of distracted driving. The scholarship information and application can be found on the website here.
Deadline is June 30, 2018.

Last week's Golden Goose winner is Ms. Michelle Hardy. Ms. Hardy's co workers had these nice things to say about her...She cares for the students and does so much for the school. She is always in her designated area.She does awesome work with the Student Council and with the SPED Teachers!! Kudos, Ms. Hardy!
Ms. Hardy does way more for these students than a lot of the teachers. She goes above and beyond on a daily basis. Every time I see her, I just want to say Thank You Ms. Hardy.
Michelle is always involved with the students...her job does not end at 3:30. she is always willing to give of her time. Congratulations, Ms. Hardy! Good Job!!

Mr. Garcia's Insurance class, has been learning various auto insurance terms. In order to make learning a bit more interesting, the class created infomercials to help themselves and others gain knowledge about auto insurance.

Ms. Adell was voted by her peers to be last week’s Golden Goose Award. Her coworkers stated: “She is always at school and on time with a great attitude!! Is always helpful and friendly!”
“Ms. Adell always puts the wants and needs of her students first. She does it with a smile and love from her heart.”
“The children that Ms. Adell serves require the individual to have extra heart, patience, and caring. She arrives early, leaves late as well as tutors.”


BHS Juniors traveled to Little Rock Saturday to tour the historical Philander-Smith College and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Students learned about admission, scholarships and housing on both campuses. Students also had the opportunity to attend a UALR basketball game as part of Explore UALR.





The Juneteenth committee presented the library with 3 copies of the autobiography of Frederick Dougas, an American slave.


Desmond Hammett and Pacey Bowens visited Ms. Brasfield and Ms. Lovell’s classes. They spoke with them about the upcoming “Juneteenth” celebration that is held each year to commemorate African American freedom with emphasis on education and achievement. It will be this June 15-16. Ms. Shirley Watson was awarded last week's Golden Goose award at BHS. Ms. Watson was chosen by her peers, as someone who is a wonderful teacher leader and mentor.

BHS is honored to announce that Amanda Haynes has been chosen as their 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year. After being nominated by her peers, Ms.Haynes was selected in recognition for her hard work and dedication to the students at BHS. She spends most of her day teaching integrated American Studies classes and the AP Government class at BHS. When she's not teaching, Ms. Haynes is involved in many other areas at BHS. She is the PBIS Facilitator, Parental Involvement Coordinator, the 11/12 Humanities teacher leader, and a member of the BHS New Tech Leadership Team. Congratulations to you, Ms. Haynes, and thank you for all you do for our community, school, and students!

Sgt. First Class Jemerson and Sgt. McGhaney, from the United States Army, spoke recently during Connections about the different program the Army offers.


Thaddeus Jefferson, from Rust College spoke to senior students recently during Connections. Rust College offered on the spot admission and scholarships. BHS students were offered $350,000 in scholarships.
