BLACK HISTORY
Black History Month, a time to honor African American achievements, was born from a need to address the exclusion of Black history from American education. Dr. Carter G. Woodson, known as the "Father of Black History," spearheaded the initiative. In 1926, he launched "Negro History Week," a precursor to the month-long observance we know today.
Woodson chose February, aligning with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, to encourage schools and the public to honor Black achievements. His aim was to challenge the erasure of Black history and educate people on African American contributions...
