Gatsby Langston-Brown, an eighth-grader at Blytheville Middle School, earned second place in the March 13 Junior Division of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Science Fair at Arkansas State University’s Student Union Centennial Hall in Jonesboro.
Langston-Brown was runner-up in the Overall Junior Division to Eli Isom of Oak Grove Middle School. Cooper Bassham of Salem High School earned first overall in the Senior Division, Bryce Despain of Riverside finished second and Echo Mitchell of Rural Special District took third.
Langston-Brown also finished first among 13 Students in the Broadcom Masters Award, a Junior Division award which qualifies the recipients to enter the Broadcom Masters National competition, where they can compete for prizes including a $25,000 scholarship. She also received a Junior Division certificate for winning the Junior Animal Sciences category.
Hayden Cornwell, a sixth-grader at BMS, claimed third place in the Junior Microbiology category of the science fair. And Zamiya Donerson, also of BMS, received Honorable Mention for Animal Sciences.
