COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Blytheville Intermediate School Odyssey of the Mind team wrapped up its season with a 13th-place finish at the May 27-30 OM World Finals on the University of Maryland campus in College Park. The BIS students competed with 41 other teams in their particular competition.
The BIS team, coached by Charlee Predmore and Gwen Hooks, consisted of students Megan Jenkins, Trey Koonce, Kaitlyn Thomas, Jamie Hooks, John Wamble, Madison Groves and Henry Lucas. Hooks and Lucas are students at Blytheville Middle School.

Pre-registration for the 2011-12 school year began several weeks ago at five of the seven schools in the Blytheville School District, and it will continue throughout most of July. Registration is also scheduled for August at each of the schools, but the principals are emphasizing to parents to register their children as soon as they can.

The few changes to this year’s “All That Jazz” were made by school leaders with the intention of increasing student participation and more comfortably accommodating the guests who attend the celebration. However, the one aspect of the event that Teryn Spears hopes never changes is the support it has received from the Blytheville area citizens.

Members of the Blytheville High School Symphonic Band performed March 10 at the annual Region VIII Concert Assessment at Jonesboro High School. According to Jon Fulkerson, the Blytheville School District’s director of bands, the Assessment "was a fantastic event for the band" as the members achieved the highest ratings for the school in 11 years. |

Every afternoon for the last several years when the Blytheville Gymchicks would arrive at the Auxiliary Gym for practice, each team member would look at the large photo of the 1997 state gymnastics champions and wonder how she would react if her team could win a title of its own.
As of Friday night, March 11, those days of wondering are over. |

The students and volunteers from the Blytheville School District’s Odyssey of the Mind program again stood out at the March 5 Northeast Regional in Pocahontas. The state competition at Beebe begins in approximately three weeks, and the Blytheville representatives plan to make their impact there too. |

| The Blytheville High School Band earned "Excellent" ratings in all categories at the March 10 Regional Concert Assessment in Jonesboro. This was the first time for the band to accomplish this achievement in 11 years, and Jon Fulkerson stated that the results are further proof that the band members have put in tremendous amounts of work |

| The 12th-graders on the Blytheville Gymchicks’ roster haven’t necessarily been the team’s headliners this season, but they have been key contributors in the Gymchicks’ victories – especially the North District Meet. If the Gymchicks can maintain their winning ways and claim a state gymnastics title this weekend, one reason will be because the seniors came through again.
