Blytheville Elementary School’s annual literacy night will be Nov. 14 throughout the campus, beginning at 5 p.m.

Media specialist Felicia Dogan stated that a variety of games and activities will be scheduled including the Readers’ Theater, in which students will be acting out the books they are reading. She said that the individual teachers will be responsible for the student grade-level games.

The school’s Scholastic Book Fair will be in its final day, and it will be open through 6:30 p.m. The theme of the book fair is “Pirates”, and a variety of books and related materials will be for sale. All proceeds will be used to purchase more books for the library.

Dogan added that each student who attends literacy night will receive a free book courtesy of the school and Parent-

Teacher Organization members. Refreshments will also be served.

Dogan stated that the purpose of literacy night is quite simple. “Our school is hosting this event to ‘build reading foundations’ among all the students at Blytheville Elementary School,” she said. “We want to bridge that connection from home to school for each of them.”

In addition to literacy night, the school is hosting “Dancing with Dads” on Dec. 2, Family Math and Science Night on Jan. 24 and an event later in the spring designed to bring the students and their mothers together. “Dancing with Dads” is scheduled for Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m.

The Odyssey of the Mind competition featuring the BES squad will be March 4 at the Pocahontas School District, and the state event is April 4
