Think About It Thursday for 9-14-17

Morning!  First of all, congratulations to last week’s contest winners – Alexis Kirby, Chykeria Williams, Ledesiree Holloway, Ja’Neisha Lewis, Lexus Wilson, Ta’Shyia Preston, Logan McCanless, and Ashanti Webb.  Thanks for reading and playing.  If you have not yet claimed your prize, please come by at your convenience.

Hope parents/guardians are seeing good grades on your progress reports!!  If you’re struggling, get with your teacher and see what he/she can do to help you or go to Homework Helpline and get help from those teachers.  Don’t stay clueless or lost when there are folks all around you holding flashlights in one hand and have the ability to flip the on switch for you.  There’s no shame in asking for help.  I guarantee you that we all have to have a little help once in a while.

What do I have to do to be an honor graduate?

You need to graduate with 25 + credits, have taken at least two AP classes, have had two years of the same foreign language, and have a GPA (grade point average) of 3.5 or higher.

TIPS for Success after High School

(1)   If you’re wanting to play sports in college, focus on making the highest grades you can in your core classes.  That means making C’s or better and not needing to recover credit in summer school.  Your core GPA is what colleges look at to determine if they want you or not.

(2)   If you’re not interested in sports in college, ditto to the above.  Colleges want scholars not just dollars.

Funnies and Facts

What did one flag say to the other flag????  Nothing.  It just waved.

How come there are no knock-knock jokes about America????  Because freedom rings.

Nineteen of the Earth’s twenty hottest years (since records have been kept) have occurred since 1980.

Glacier National Park in Montana, USA, is losing its glaciers because of global warming – some scientists believe all of them could be gone by 2030.  That’s only thirteen more years.  Wow.

Warming temperatures mean that soon ships can pass right across the North Pole during the summer (since it will be ice-free).  That’s hard for me to wrap my head around!

Parting Thoughts

I sure hope there has been something here that you have learned, made you laugh, or made you think.  I also hope you know that you’re not in this “school thing” alone.  I’m here to help you and so are all the other grown-ups who work here.  You’re biggest task in getting help from one of us is to decide which of us you trust most.  That’s the person who can help you most.  And every one of us is different and we know that.  But we also want you to be successful.  Let us help if we can.

Love,

Ms. Scottie
